- Nurse Aide Training, Certificate of Competency (NATC)

The Nurse Aide Training Certificate at Delaware County Community College (DCCC) provides students with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to work as a Nurse Aide in various healthcare settings. This comprehensive program prepares students to take the Pennsylvania State Nurse Aide Competency Exam, which is required for certification. Upon certification, graduates are eligible for Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) roles in long-term care facilities, assisted living care facilities, and rehabilitation centers. CNA’s work under the supervision of licensed nurses and assist patients with activities of daily living, take and monitor vital signs, and help patients walk and use supportive devices, while ensuring patient safety. Graduates can also find employment as home health aides, hospice aides, and personal care assistants.

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic nursing skills such as taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living (ADL), providing basic hygiene care to patients, and reporting findings to appropriate personnel.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and proficiency in infection control.
- Demonstrate knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements, patient rights and ethical considerations in health care.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective communication techniques when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Assist client with behavioral health and social service needs; including clients who are cognitively impaired.
The College will award a certificate of competency to students who complete an approved credit-bearing career program that requires less than 30 credits. General education courses may not be required for programs that have less than 30 credits. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. At least six (6) credits, or 50% of the total credits required, whichever is greater, must be completed at Delaware County Community College.
